My Thoughts about Teaching/ Learning

 

  Education is the process of teaching and learning, or we can explain it as the process of transferring the knowledge from the teacher to students. And this knowledge depends on the teacher's philosophy and way of how he would like to present the information to the students and on how he will explain the material in order to get the students engaged to learn.

   According to me, we shouldn't think about teaching before thinking about learning or without thinking about it. Because our duties as teachers is not to teach the material and go, we should think about how the students would learn when we teach them, how they would be engaged to learn. We should concentrate more on students and increase their creativity to succeed more and more.

   My philosophy of education is mostly student centered. I prefer focusing on students, on how they would be engaged and motivated, on their needs, their way of thinking and understanding. In order to let them think and this thinking will help them analyze and interpret everything that leads to more understanding and creating. I should teach the students not to memorize, I should teach them to think and explain which increases their critical thinking. Which means to use their minds not only their memory. I should increase their curiosity to ask questions and find their answers. Also, I should teach them to work cooperatively in specific tasks.

   In addition to that, I should know my students, know what they need, how they behave. So, my duty is to understand them and teach them what are the expected and accepted behaviors and what are not. As a teacher, I have the ability to change their behaviors and changes their negative attitudes towards learning into positive one. Also, I should increase their self confidence and reinforce them. Give them positive reinforcements (whenever they answer correctly) and feedback that increases their motivation to learn more and (whenever they answer wrong) we shouldn't suppress them we should give them hints to try more and get engaged more. Another thing is to create a safe environment that make them feel comfortable in learning.

   In conclusion, I engage the teachers to use this method in teaching process, to use this philosophy. Because in my opinion it is the more effective way of teaching that helps in engaging more students to learn.
